Progress on ProjecT

Working toward completion of my final project, lately I have been focusing on finding the materials and objects I will be using to present my project with. I have been looking at pictures of the RMS Titanic and focusing on the survivors of the sink. I have been reading stories of these survivors to see if there was any personal connection I could find within them. On a general level, there may have been some, but nothing too similar. I have also started working on the Wordles based on the stories and feedback of the survivors. I have been deciding on fonts, colors and sizes that best represent my topic. Along with the Wordles, I have also been starting to create my map from Google Maps, and have been plotting out where the Titanic ship had been sailing to and from. While researching about this historical event, I came across a realization that the movie Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio had little relevance to the actual event. The characters "Jack and Rose" didn't really exist, and nor was there a love story. Along with the irrelevance of those characters there were many that resemble actual people that were involved on the ship, such as the captain. I found this to be interesting and confusing, but I guess it’s just the way it is in show business! I have not encountered any struggles or unsure moments yet because the work that I have started with is pretty straight forward.

Titanic TimeWarp

For my final project I have chosen to research, study and break down the historical tragedy of Titanic. For this event I will be creating a final project that would show and represent the unfortunate incident. I chose this topic because it is a historical event that I haven’t really studied a lot before, and which I take a lot of interest in. On my website I will be producing images, a time line, maps and some links to videos. I will be creating a map on there whereabouts of where the ship sank, where it was trying to travel to and also it’s regular routes. I will be extracting images and videos of the event to provide a visual representation by searching the topic on You Tube and Google images. I will be providing a time line that represents each day that the ship had been sailing before it sank, and an approximate guide to what the events were before and post sinking. I will be performing text analysis by performing remediation on articles about titanic, and some personal experiences and comments of survivors, by creating a world clouds and word trees. My main purpose of this project is to provide readers the basic and detailed knowledge about Titanic.

Pearl Harbor Map

Here is a link to our map
My partner and I chose to map out the historical events of Pearl Harbor. We believed that with the options given we would be able to extract the greatest amount of useful information from it, and also because it was the topic that we were both quiet familiar with. On our map we included some main events leading up to, and the after math of Pearl Harbor. We researched the historical dates of events that led up to the Pearl Harbor attack, and recorded the information in systematic order by date. We located the data we used from Wikipedia. This site provided us with all of our presented information. For visual representations of our markings on our map, we extracted images for google, by searching the title of each point, and also from Wikipedia. The text that we presented describes incidents, events and post-attack information. I would of liked to of had the opportunity to create a slide show along with the map. This would give viewers a detailed and very visual concept of the historical event. I believe that creating this map does help people understand the history of Pearl Harbor, only because I did not know a lot about the event, but after the project was finished I left class with more knowledge about it. I believe that maps in general help people understand the location of certain events. Maps provide a perfect visual and geographic distribution of a certain event.
